«Beautiful Mountains. A Point of View» is the 2018 exhibition of the Alpine Museum Switzerland about people's relationship with the mountains. It looks at our feeling of longing for the mountains and confronts it with contemporary perspectives.
The Mountains And Our Yearning
The audience participates – through public painting, exhibition of their mountain pictures or through uploading a photograph to a virtual collection of mountain images. «Beautiful Mountains» is the second project of the museum sponsored by Avina - an expression of the foundation's strong support for this important cultural institution.

In 2018, at the second SwissSkills forum, the best young craftsmen and professionals from industry and service sector meet in Bern. 75 professional championships and 60 demonstrations provide information and emotion.

SwissSkills 2018 is a forum for teenagers and their parents as well as addressing teachers, instructors, vocational trainers and career advisors. Avina supports this valuable initiative to strengthen the Swiss two-tier education system.
Public Readings in Private Spaces:
«Couch Readings» are public readings in private spaces – they provide a personal and unconventional approach to literature and act as a springboard for up-and-coming authors.
The programme focuses on promising new authors who present themselves and their texts. During a three-year build-up phase, couch readings have already attracted a broad audience of regulars. In a consolidation phase, sponsored by Avina, they will increase the number of events and extend the geographical footprint of the readings.
SOLLBRUCHSTELLE lets you experience the critical transition from an old to a new building through «Art at the dying building». The new building project is part of the exhibition in the old building designated for demolition. In addition, the old shell offers intermediate spaces for creative industries and start-ups.

Artists selected by SOLLBRUCHSTELLE honour the building and all those who built up a relationship with it during the years through an exhibition and a public event prior to demolition. Avina supports the current «Projekt 04» at the Förrlibuckstrasse in Zurich.

Special acoustics, special light
In 2018, Avina supports the Chagall Concerts as well as the «Wie im Himmel» (Like In Heaven) Concerts of the «Musik im Fraumünster» programme. The Chagall-Concerts entitled «Schönheit / Wahnsinn» (Beauty / Mania) are a major part of the Festspiele Zurich. For the first time, contemporary dance takes centre stage together with Marc Chagall's texts and selected pieces of music in these productions.

Children of metal illness patients are often alone with their difficult situation. Their questions remain unanswered, they do not understand what is happening, they ask themselves whether they are to blame for the illness of their father or mother and they feel ashamed. As a consequence, they take on a lot of responsibility, close themselves off and their social integration suffers.

The healthy development of these children is at risk and they might not enjoy equal opportunities. With Avina's support, «iks Institut Kinderseele Schweiz» counsels patients, their environment and specialists, offers help, launches research-projects and conducts intensive outreach and awareness work.

«Schreibzeit Schweiz» (Writers' Time Switzerland), is a project by the association «Kultessen» for talented young writers between the age of 8 and 18.

Through a competition, talented teenagers and children are selected to participate in a writers' camp where they are encouraged to exchange ideas and produce literary texts under professional supervision. The final texts are published as a book series. Avina has already supported «Schreibzeit Schweiz» several times in the past.
Foundations are an important player in civil society: They are active in areas where the state cannot intervene for legal or financial reasons and they support projects which are not (yet) economically viable.
A relevant link between economy and State
Swiss Foundations was set up in 2001 as a joint initiative of Swiss foundations. Today, it represents over 25% of the annual foundation budgets in Switzerland. As a founding member, Avina is one of its major sponsors. Strengthening the Swiss foundation sector is one of its main goals.

Due to one-sided media coverage and their forced unemployment, refugees are often perceived as uneducated. The «Evening School Import» project aims to overcome this prejudice. Immigrants become teachers and use their expertise to the benefit of local people.
Pass on their Skills and Knowledge
Natural sciences and humanities, arts and sports - refugees pass on their skills and know-how and meet their students at eye-level. As «Klubschule Import» these courses enjoyed a huge demand and, with the support of Avina, the evening school is now becoming a long-term institution.

Zurich, international meeting place
In but a few years «Breakthrough» has become the main breakdance event in Switzerland. An action-fuelled programme offers competitions, workshops, stage productions, movie screenings, an exhibition and a children's day.
Competitions include battles for kids and for over-thirties, but also the European qualifiers United Styles Europe where the world's best breakdance-crews and solo dancers compete for their ticket. Avina supports the festival for the third time, helping to create a platform for urban dance in Zurich.

Contemporary Music –
The ensemble for contemporary music «Collegium Novum Zürich» CNZ wants to make the music of the 20th and 21st century available to a broad public.

Avina supports their «TiefenLausch» education project: Project weeks lead by an ensemble musician give students the opportunity to listen to contemporary music, try out, discuss and improvise, turning them into musicians and composers. What are local politics all about? How do I promote a local project? How can I make a contribution? Through targeted on- and offline activities engage.ch encourages teenagers and young adults to actively take part in local politics.

As a long-term goal, the project by the umbrella organization of Swiss youth parliaments DSJ aims to create new participation structures for young people on a local level and make a nationwide impact. Avina has been supporting DSJ since 2009.
The association «Music:Eyes» creates a visual music experience. Music:Eyes is developing a groundbreaking software tool to visualize complex musical compositions in a new way.

Avina supports the first «Zurich Philosophy Festival» with its motto «From the Tower into Action»: it brings philosophy to the city, makes it tangible and creates new spaces for meaningful thought experiments.

«Moving Stories» is a support programme for secondary students who experience reading difficulties or fatigue.
The project employs special teaching tools and external reading-coaches. Students go through motivational concentration and experience exercises, practise reading and reading out loud and visit other classes. «Moving Stories» has already been implemented successfully in 48 schools; Avina supports its extension to further educational institutions.

Experiencing Youth Theatre
Theatre laboratory «LAB Junges Theater Zürich» (LAB Young Theatre Zurich) gives teenagers the opportunity to actively experience theatre, thus closing a gap in Zurich's cultural offering. LAB offers a fresh space to play, think and experience and allows the temporary formation of young theatre companies. It is open to everyone between the age of 14 and 24.
After two succesful programmes, Avina also supports the third LAB season in 2016/17. Under the motto «Family Home» young people explore what family was, is and might be.

The aquatic ecosystem:
Naturama Aargau, in collaboration with the environmental outreach programme GLOBE Switzerland, is setting up two education centres for water in the «Aquatic Heart of Switzerland» (Aarau) and the «Aquatic Heart of Europe» (Göschenen).
A space to learn
The «Wassernetz.ch» (water network) project is open to the broad public but puts a special focus on teachers and other disseminators: Through training and advice, they are empowered to use bodies of water as places of learning and explain their relevance. With Avina's support, both centres and their programmes are extended and brought closer together creating a comprehensive new education programme on the topic of water in German-speaking Switzerland.

Strauhof: Schreibrausch (Writers' High)
Inspiration, Block, Euphoria:
According to the concept of «furor poeticus», the origins of which can be traced back to ancient times, true literature can only be written in a state of rapture. The «Schreibrausch» exhibition at Strauhof Zurich explores the highs and lows of this phenomenon.
Process and ecstasy of writing
The exhibition looks at writing processes and practices and at different forms of ecstatic writing. In the past, Avina already supported Strauhof for a Friedrich Glauser exhibition.

Up to now it has been difficult for children and teenage refugees to find out what projects and services are available to them in the canton of Zurich.
Therefore, okaj zürich is developing a new Internet platform: www.ankommen-zh.ch. The website provides a comprehensive overview of services as well as information about the current situation of young refugees in the canton of Zurich. ankommen-zh.ch is the second okaj zürich project supported by Avina.
Swiss Youth Film Festival: Filmworkshops «Spielraum»

Every autumn, the Swiss Youth Film Festival organizes free film workshops where teenagers work in groups under professional guidance to produce a short film about a given topic.

Prevention through information
Women who are victims of sexual violence are disadvantaged in society. During the daily routine at the Advice Centre on Sexual Violence, the great need for more awareness and education on this issue becomes manifest.

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, «ROTES VELO Kompanie» (Red Bicycle Company) is currently planning an intergenerational project for 2017. «Alles Gueti!» («All the best!») will bring together professionals and amateurs. Children will work with seniors; teenagers share the stage with adults.
A work of art for the anniversary
Categories such as age, amateur or professional become obsolete when watching the performance. Instead, the audience is taken into a universe where only humanity matters. This anniversary production is the third ROTES VELO project supported by Avina.

Stapferhaus Lenzburg: «1001 HEIMAT»

Lost, new, changed –
What defines «Heimat»? How much of it do we need? What kind of «Heimat» do we want? «1001 HEIMAT» wants to find out what makes Swiss citizens feel at home in their country. The exhibition starts off with a Ferris wheel ride across the country to collect impressions and opinions.
What does «Heimat» mean to us?
In March 2017, the exhibition opens an inter-active trail, where visitors may explore what «Heimat» means to them on a pleasant journey taking them from inner limits to external borders. Avina supports the «HEIMAT»-exhibition as part of its long-term commitment with the Stapferhaus.

Education for young refugees too old for school
Let's not waste time or motivation: Education shouldn't have to wait for decisions in an asylum procedure. The Integration Centre of Competence «Integres» from the region of Schaffhausen sets up supplementary classes, giving teenagers and young adults immediate access to vocational training and, in a second step, to the labour market.

Avina supports the programme, which is based on the conviction that it is to the benefit of an entire society when immigrants can participate in social and economic life.
AOZ – Integration-Intensive
Learning to live in Switzerland:
Many teenagers and young adults who have been granted asylum in Switzerland find themselves between a rock and a hard place: They are too old to attend regular school while at the same time their level of integration and education is insufficient to enter the professional education system.
Schools look beyond the classroom
«Integration-Intensive» by the asylum organization Zürich AOZ provides a tailor-made programme of group lessons and individual coaching. Avina supports the concept, which gives young people an opportunity for a better future at an important point in their lives.

Against poverty & for environmental protection:
The «La Merced»-district in Mexico City is characterized by poverty, violence and drug abuse. «Nosotros reciclamos» is a pilot-project by the association «Project Nauyaca». It teaches rubbish collectors how to fashion trinkets and other decorative items from waste materials and provides psychological assistance for a life without drugs and violence.

Aligning monetary policy
The «Monetary Policy for Sustainability»project strives to increase the alignment of monetary policies with sustainability. The programme seeks to promote an understanding of the far-reaching effects of monetary policies, influence the discussion and develop proposals for reform.
This project is a flagship initiative of the Council on Economic Policies (CEP). CEP aims to promote economic policies that strengthen individual opportunities, social cohesion and ecological stability. Avina has been supporting CEP in this global initiative since 2013.

Once upon a time in Windisch, canton of Aargau, 6‘000 Roman legionaries prepared to serve the emperor. Today, Museum Aargau has created the Path of the Legionary Vindonissa, where families and school children get to know the lives of legionaries and higher-ranking officers in a playful manner.

The show is dedicated to the Nazca-Culture, which between 200 BC and 650AD left mysterious archaeological traces, such as the so-called Nazca Lines, in the South of Peru.

Musée Visionnaire was set up in 2013 in Zurich by a private initiative as the first and, until now, only museum for Art Brut and fringe art. Its distinguished collection, changing exhibitions and rich framework programme appeal to visitors of all ages.

Sculptures ask questions
The title of the «Biennial Sculpture Symposium» in 2017 is «Refugium» (Refuge). But who is being protected? Nature – against excessive building activity? Or is it rather the city dweller, finding a space of refuge and recovery?
Unique visual and poetic installations by Swiss artists are put on display in the enchanted park of the culture-village Weiertal to inspire discussions about the term «Refugium». Avina already supported the Biennial in 2013 and 2015.

A temporary community
Once again, Avina supports a «FAHR.WERK:ö!» theatre workshop which allows children and teenagers to collaborate with professional performers. Their new production is inspired by the multitude of stories that only happen in train stations. The result is an entertaining gangster comedy about a failed mail train robbery.
Cast and crew move from one performance to the next with their tractors and caravans, thus combining the artistic scope of the project with the powerful experience of living as a community.

The Swiss organisation "Peace Watch Switzerland" sends voluntary human rights observers to regions of conflict in order to aid conflict transformation and peace building. It works within a network of national and non-governmental peace activists and collaborates closely with local partner organisations.

Around fifty per cent of young Nicaraguan women have no formal qualifications. Most of them cannot find regular work and therefore do not have access to social and medical benefits. Many of these women are single parents.

A theatrical documentary
Swiss citizen Huong Do knows what it means to escape into the unknown on a boat. At the age of eleven, she survived a dramatic flight from Vietnam. «SKYLUCK», supported by Avina, is a piece of theatre telling Huong's story of her escape towards a new life.

Many people who live in Switzerland today were once refugees. We should listen to them. The association «1visible» puts a spotlight on social questions, such as this one, which otherwise receive very little or only one-sided attention.

Countless young refugees reach Europe every day. This calls for targeted youth projects. The «Zu.Flucht.Welcome» project creates structured spaces of encounter to build relationships between Swiss teenagers and teenage refugees.

A major focus lies on environmental education for children and teenagers and Pusch visits about 3‘000 elementary school classes every year. Avina supports school projects, which allow classes to intensify their knowledege with their teachers.
Starting with the basics –
X-runner installs waterless toilets in Peruvian slums, where households do not have running water and are not connected to a sewage system. Their technical solution is based on regular disposal and composting of faeces.

Teenagers growing up in the slums of Buenos Aires lack job training opportunities - their futures look bleak. The «Mozart in Moscow via Buenos Aires» project introduces them to the world of theatre. They acquire skills in set building and dressmaking and are taught the basics of puppetry. In addition, they learn to speak in public and to stand up for their beliefs and values.
«Mozart in Moscow via Buenos Aires» employs 30 teenagers for two years and reaches about 3‘000 people. Avina supports the work phases in the workshops and during the staging of the pieces.

Domicil Foundation finds apartments for socially and economically disadvantaged people and secures them a place to live in the long term. In particular, they support families and single parents with a migration background.

The programme relies on cooperation between parents and institutions and wants to create a link between playful learning in institutions and at home.

Since 2004, ARPEGIO Perú has been supporting socially disadvantaged children and teenagers in the metropolis of Trujillo, offering free instrumental lessons and a joint orchestra. Music helps the children to develop discipline, practice tolerance and discover the joy of common goals.

Homeless people and people living in poverty are trained as city guides and take groups of visitors on a tour of "their" Zurich during which they describe their daily lives.

Non-violent and strong
After they leave the refuge in Winterthur, many women are still traumatised and unable to live their lives without help. Thus they risk returning to their violent partners and therefore to the vicious circle of violence.

Multimedia Animation 2015
Animation for film
«Multimedia Animation» forms part of the animation film festival «Fantoche»'s programme. This is unique in Switzerland as it is the only platform where a broad public is given access to cross-genre forms of animation.
Visitors learn about new, interactive developments in animation in presentations and exhibitions and students present projects with a focus on the interface between animation and games. Avina has already supported «Fantoche» in previous years.

Individual support to empower children
Supporting children at an early age can prevent problems at school and promote integration. «Arche Child Support» finds volunteers to lend a hand, especially to children whose parents don't speak German. Every week they help them with their homework, do handicrafts or simply have a chat.

The association «Reintegration im Herkunftsland» (Reintegration in the country of origin) promotes reintegration of people who are living in Switzerland without a long-term residence permit and want to build a new existence for themselves in their country of origin.

The Swiss UNESCO-Commission and the Netzwerk Kinderbetreuung Schweiz use the document to offer guidance and a starting point for discussion to all stakeholders.

Impact Starter is a novel European online-platform, which makes starting out in social entrepreneurship easier for young Swiss talents. Impact Starter provides access to valuable information about key questions such as legal or tax issues and allows young social entrepreneurs to network.

The Education workshop Bergwald runs week-long forest-projects for upper grade pupils and apprentices. Young people work under professional guidance. They learn to preserve and use the mountain region combining practical experience with education.
Avina has been supporting these forest-projects since 2008, because they stimulate the social and individual development of young people while helping the environment at the same time.
Centre for Democracy Aarau
The Centre for Democracy Aarau ZDA researches and teaches democracy in all its forms on the highest academic level. It provides a place to meet for scholars, interested parties and citizens from all over the globe who care about democracy and its development.
Avina has been supporting the ZDA since 2008 in its research on Latin American democracies. The ZDA acts as a bridge between Europe and Latin America, where direct democracy is a relatively recent phenomenon.

The DESERTEC Foundation's DESERTEC-Concept describes a way to guarantee climate protection, energy security and development. A holistic approach uses renewable energies at sites where conditions for an economically efficient use are best, where the ecological impact is as small as possible and where they trigger socio-economic development for the population.

Avina supported the DESERTEC Foundation in 2012 for the translation of the DESERTEC-Atlas into Spanish and Portuguese. The Atlas makes an important contribution to renewable energy training.
Young Enterprise Switzerland
Young Enterprise Switzerland (YES) develops and runs hands-on business education programmes for pupils. The programmes seek to create a link between schools and businesses and to promote an entrepreneurial mindset among young people. Teachers and volunteers from businesses work together to assign the programmes.
AVINA has been supporting YES since 2009. Currently the focus lies on further extending the Company Programme: Young people build up a real business and manage it during a school year. An entrepreneurial approach as well as social skills such as team work are important factors to qualify for the national competition.

Keeping a precious cultural asset
On the outskirts of the city of Zürich, in the Fahr convent, nuns have lived according to the teachings of St. Benedict for over 880 years. The Baroque convent building and numerous annexes are in urgent need of renovation, the cost of which cannot be covered by the convent community alone.

Avina supports the renovation of the Fahr convent because it should remain a precious cultural asset and an oasis of tranquillity in the heavily populated Limmattal region.
The "wemakeit.ch" association promotes project financing using crowd funding and operates the largest crowd funding platform in Switzerland for this purpose. To date, the platform has mainly financed cultural projects.

Filling a national cultural asset
Time has taken its toll on the Wesemlin Capuchin monastery in Lucerne and a structural renovation is required. However, it is not only the building which requires a renewal. The Capuchin monks want to face social and cultural changes by creating the Oase-W spiritual centre.

Using experienced knowledge
Innovage brings together qualified people with leadership, management and consultancy experience who are either retired or just about to retire. It uses teams to provide their valuable knowledge for public and non-profit affairs, free of charge. There are currently around 150 Innovage members active in nine regional networks.
Avina has supported Innovage since 2012 in the development of new regional networks. In over 80 projects, Innovage makes a wide range of experienced knowledge available to society and offers committed people an opportunity to collaborate.

Avina has supported the Foster Children Special Department Aargau since 2011 by financing orientation seminars for foster parents. Children who can no longer live with their parents due to danger should be allowed to grow up in a nurturing and safe environment.
Femmes-Tische brings together women with immigrant backgrounds in discussion sessions on education, daily life and health. Thus the program helps immigrant mothers to network and find their place in our society more easily, better understand the secular living context for their children and thereby provide their children with the necessary encouragement and orientation.
Avina has been committed to Femmes-Tische since 2010 and currently supports the further expansion of Femmes-Tische in Switzerland.

Origen is a young, cultural institution in the high Swiss Alps which is primarily dedicated to the promotion and production of new, professional musical theatre. The heart of the organisation is the farmer's village Riom in the Canton of Grisons. The Zürcher Theater Spektakel is one of the most important European festivals for contemporary forms of the performing arts. Academia Internacional de Flauta

Exchanging and developing
Each year, the Academia Internacional de Flauta convenes flutists from Latin America and Europe in Colombia for seminars, master classes, concerts and competitions. This provides transverse flute students and professional flutists valuable support and a stimulus for their artistic development.
Avina has supported the private initiatives of the two renowned flutists and the founders of the Academia de Flauta, the Swiss-Columbian dual-citizen Hernando Leal and the Columbian Gabriel Ahumada, since 2009.
The Zeitmaschine.TV association aims to create a dialogue between young people and the elderly: as part of the creation of a ‘time machine’ (German: Zeitmaschine), young people search for memories of contemporary historical events, record the stories of contemporary witnesses and publish them at www.zeitmaschine.tv.
Avina has supported Zeitmaschine.TV since 2008, because the generational project makes an important contribution to the oral history of Switzerland and contributes to integration in a very comprehensive sense.

Children and minors have little input today in official or legal proceedings – even when they are directly affected. The Verein Kinderanwaltschaft Schweiz provides them with independent help and support in proceedings.

Don’t just think about it –
euforia is an organisation for young people. It aims to motivate young people to actively contribute towards overcoming global challenges. To this end, euforia organises a wide range of events, such as imp!act and STEP into action, as well as running the CHANGEmakers network.
Avina has supported the development of euforia since 2008. The current focus is on the sponsorship of the last phase of a sustainable business model: euforia should be self-sufficient in the long-term.
There’s no such word
The association Infoklick.ch is a direct point of contact for children and youths who wish to actively commit themselves with their own ideas and personal resources. Often, it’s the small details which are missing when it comes to implementing many youth initiatives: a space for common use, additional specialist knowledge, a plug socket, a contact or a small start-up fund. Infoklick.ch provides this support.
Avina has supported Infoklick.ch since 2008. The current focus is on the advice platform tschau.ch, where young people can get information and ask questions about life.
The Aid Governance foundation supports development projects and social organisations in improving their management quality and ethical capacity as well as developing integrated governance. The aim is to increase the impact of the projects being pursued. Aid Governance uses scientifically perfected instruments, benchmarks and software-methods for this and has access to a wealth of management experience.

«Alte Fabrik» Cultural Centre

The Alte Fabrik (old factory) Cultural Centre is in the heart of Rapperswil-Jona and enables the widest variety of artists, musicians, actors and dancers from the region to dedicate themselves to creativity. Additionally, the Cultural Centre hosts the expositions by the awardees of the selective sponsorships for curators, *KURATOR. A lively, multi-layered program for all generations creates space for exchanging ideas and meetings.

The aid organisation BRASCRI, led by priest Hans Jürgen Martin and his wife Margrit, is aimed at the well-being of socially disadvantaged children, youths and families in Brazil. BRASCRI provides real help for people to help themselves through its projects.

FIZ Advocacy and support for migrant women

The FIZ specialist department for trafficking in women and female immigration stands up for the protection and rights of female immigrants. It provides advice on the violence and exploitation of affected immigrants and offers victims of trafficking in women full support via the intervention department Makasi. The FIZ also performs educational and political work.

Avina has sponsored the non-profit association FIZ since 2004. The department supports immigrant women in their strengths and abilities, so they can take back control of their own lives.
The Lilli association is committed to the prevention of violence and the promotion of sexual health. Lilli offers young men and women anonymous online advice, information and tips on sexuality, sexual violence, relationships, issues for men and women, questions about bodies, protection and sexually transmitted diseases.
Avina has supported Lilli since 2004. Its current focus is on the development of the specialist areas “preventing violence” and “sexual health”. Self-confident and well-informed young people put themselves at less risk and can actively protect themselves.
Zürich refuge for girls

The refuge for girls is aimed at girls and young women between 14 and 20 years old who experience physical, psychological or sexual violence in their families or their close social environment. It offers a temporary living space, protection from violence and advice; to plan the next steps in comfort.

Women, mothers and children affected by violence (largely domestic violence but also sex workers affected by human trafficking and violence) can find a safe and protective emergency refuge in the Zürich Violetta women’s refuge. As a specialist unit for domestic violence, the women’s refuge also offers a 24 hour telephone advice line.

Avina has supported the Zürich women’s refuge foundation as the operator for the Zürich Violetta women’s refuge since 2004. The home offers a context for the important initial psychological stabilisation and overcoming trauma, as well as a strong support network when they leave the refuge.
